History

Madison Valley

Madison Lumber Company has served the needs of professional contractors and homeowners in the Madison Valley since 1978. The company was founded by Martin and Nancy Griffin. The first office was an 8’ x 10’ building with a phone table and storage closet located on a rented lot behind the Ennis Auto Parts store in Ennis. The first two loads of lumber, delivered by Kruse Lumber of Helena and Yaw-Kinney of Great Falls, were a mixed truck of dimensional lumber and a mixed truck of sheathing products. In 1979 the SBA financed the purchase of a lot and construction of a retail sales and storage building at the present location two miles north of Ennis on Montana Highway 287.

1985 saw the expansion of the hardware store and doubling of warehouse capacity. This new addition housed the equipment for the manufacture of component products and press assembly of engineered roof trusses. From 1985 to 1988 Madison Lumber Company also operated a branch yard in West Yellowstone. In 1989 Madison Lumber Company expanded its’ services to include select northern hardwoods, specialty hardware and custom millwork.

In July of 1993, Nancy purchased Martin’s interest in the company. For the next several years company priorities included staff training programs, inventory management, product diversification and quality control procedures. In 1999 a drive-through and millwork storage building was constructed and in 2005 the company added a new energy efficient entry and mechanical system as well as 6000 sq.ft. of retail sales, display and office space. In 2008 Madison Lumber Company became the first lumberyard in the nation to be certified as a “green” building material dealer.

Madison Lumber Company has an historical commitment to provision of exceptional customer service and the efficient distribution of quality lumber products at competitive prices. We are committed to customer product education and energy conservation. We are proud partners in America’s housing industry and the American dream of homeownership.
